Welcome to the OUAN Wiki

The OUAN Site Wiki is a labor of love created by the current members of OUAN for the future members of OUAN. Our goal is to make the canon history of our site as easy to peruse and learn as possible for those of you who wish to join our family. Within you can find everything from species to characters to members to canon tales and so much more.

WE ARE IN BETA TESTING RIGHT NOW. ALTHOUGH 99% OF THE WIKI IS DONE, WE ARE STILL IN THE PROCESS OF FACT CHECKING, PROOFREADING, AND COMPLETING A FEW EXTRA PAGES AS WE REALIZE THAT WE NEED TO MAKE THEM. Please excuse our mess. If you find empty pages, we are working on filling them post haste. If you find conflicting information, we are working on making our facts align across pages and we would be happy to tell you which piece of conflicting information is correct. We apologize for any confusion, with luck Beta Testing will be over the and the Wiki will be 100% done shortly.

THANK YOU!

 Zoology of the Yarrow

Zoology of the Yarrow

Animals of the Yarrow

The Yarrow is home to a wide variety of magical life not found in other areas of Ga'leah. The further one ventures into the Yarrow, the bigger and more fantastic the creatures that populate it. While the typical creatures like bears, wolves, and deer are not entirely uncommon, the gods enjoyed creating all manner of unique plant and animal life to populate the Yarrow as well.

Many of the Yarrow creatures were contorted and mutated by the Blight into flesh hungry and violent monsters. Those that survived the Yarrow Blight did so be escaping into Ga'leah and finding shelter wherever they could. They now roam the countryside of Ga'leah in very scarce numbers. Some of them, instead, stumbled through the portal into Allutheria and can now be found roaming the world of the Fae as well.

And, of course, there are the ghosts of the Blighted that remain as a phantasmic homage to the Yarrow that was.

Keener

Caption

Physical Description

The Keener can appear humanoid from a distance. It is only on closer inspection that one notices their slimey grey skin and almost incorporeal appearance. It is said that the Keeners are the scavengers of the Yarrow and will often follow behind larger predators attempting to collect their scraps. It is said that they are called Keeners because of the high pitched cry they elicit when waiting for a predator to finish killing and eating it's prey.

Danger

They can incapacitate with a single scream. Their keening often helps a predator to subdue prey that is trying to escape. Their cry is so high pitched that it temporarily confuses the prey and allows the predator to kill them more quickly. they also have elongated nails that are sharp, and can cut through flesh at a fast rate. They can run as fast as a human, if not faster.

Weakness

Blighted Keeners must be beheaded. If burned they will only 'play dead' and attack again at the first opportunity. They will also 'heal' from any wounds not inflicted to the head since the ooze that covers their grey skin can easily close off any wound and stop bleeding.

Dendroll

Caption

Physical Description

The Dendroll is a large, tree like beast that tends to lurk where there is a great deal of undergrowth. It's body stands around fifteen feet tall, but the large, leafy green shoots on its back can extend up to ten feet taller. It has wide legs that resemble tree trunks, thickly armored with bark, and a crest of wood like spikes that form a crown on its head. It primarily eats trees, using it's large, armored body to knock them down and consume everything from the bark to the leaves. It is a fairly sluggish creature, spending a great deal of time hiding itself in the undergrowth where it is easily concealed by fallen trees and large bushes and saplings.

The Blight however, has twisted this creature into a new sort of monster. Now, it rampages through the forest, smashing through anything and anyone that gets in its way in a crazed search for food. It has turned from it's herbivorous habits and will tear into anything it can get its teeth around.

Danger

Aside from crushing things in its path, the Dendroll has numerous attributes including its ability to grow large spikes from it's back, tail and crown. These wood like protrusions can vary in length, ranging anywhere from a few inches to three or four feet, depending on the size of the individual. If on the back, they are often concealed by its leafy mass, although the Blight is slowly turning it black. It is also incredibly strong, capable of knocking down massive trees, smash through large buildings and structures, and kill anything horse sized or smaller with one good swipe.

It can also generate large gusts of wind from its mouth, capable of knocking a full grown human off its feet, and even knock down buildings from up to twenty feet away. At point blank range (within 7 feet), if it releases a breath of wind, it can potentially kill something, though that also depends on the creatures size.

Finally, on top of all of this, it is not easy to disable, as it can regrow virtually any limb in a short period of time. Any of its limbs, spikes, or tail can easily be regrown, and unless all of them are cut off at once - a feat nearly impossible due to the sheer size and width of its legs - it will still be lethal.

Weakness

A Dendroll can be killed in two ways, one, just like any other Blighted creature is through the head. The top of its head and forehead are not ideal places, but the eyes, mouth, under the chin and the neck are all vulnerable spots. It is also extremely vulnerable to fire, moreso than usual Blight creatures due to it's wooden nature.

Lorewalker

Caption

Physical Description

This creature emerges from more swampy environments. It is a manifestation of various bog plants, fungus and lichen that form a sort of hunched over creature. It walks similarly to a gorilla in that its front limbs hang low to the ground and help propel the creature forward. Its coloration can vary but it is mostly brown and green, covered in muck and moss occasionally with brightly colored mushrooms protruding from its back. This creature mostly lies in wait, expertly hidden from its prey until within striking distance. It's size varies from a carriage to as large as a small house.

Danger

This creature is sluggish, but powerful. It has a lot of strength but its physical attacks can be dodged if your quick enough. Its primary form of attack is poison. Since this creature is so hard to spot, it uses its combination of camouflage and poison to render its victim paralyzed until it can devour it.

Weakness

Setting the creature to fire is the only sure way to kill it. Just be sure to keep your distance, you wouldn't want to become paralyzed lighting this beast up with a torch in your hand. Maybe try fire arrows.

Mandry

Caption

Physical Description

Mandry stand roughly ten feet tall and have thick pink or purple skin. They have extremely long limbs and can move swiftly without making a sound. They also have four long tentacles that extend from their upper abdomens and end in flower like tips. The Mandry's tentacles probe the ground below them looking for small animals in the tall grass. They have black eyes that serve the animal best at night, and large earlike formations at the sides of their head that make them excellent at hearing sounds from long distances.

Danger

A Mandry can inject toxins through the petal like formations on the tips of their tentacles. This toxin breaks down the biological matter of the organism and allows the Mandry to feed on the liquefied remains through their tubular tongue. Although they are peaceful creatures who rarely attack animals larger than a rabbit, if they feel that they or their young are threatened, they can and will attack with said tentacles and with the wicked claws at the ends of their gigantic legs.

A Blighted Mandry uses it's tentacles to inject toxin and Blight into those it encounters. It can also slash with the wicked claws at the end of it's long legs, and swipe with those long legs with an incredible force.

Weakness

Mandries do not see well in bright light and will rely instead upon their sense of hearing when in brightly lit locations. They also have incredibly long legs, and when in the process of swiping an individual can be tipped over by directly striking one of the other legs on which it is balancing. As with other Blighted creatures, they can only be destroyed with fire or by doing damage to the brain.

Necator

Caption

Physical Description

A Necator is a large worm like creature that lives beneath the ground in dense forests. It moves very slowly through the soil, filtering insects through its mouth in a way similar to the way many whales filter krill from the water. As Necators age, the begin to grow moss, mold, and other small plantlike organisms on their skin. A Necator nearing the end of its life will often breach the soil and die above ground where the animals of the forest will feed on its remains.

The Blight has twisted the Necator into a terrifying monster. Its gaping maw is now used to consume anyone and anything that crosses it's path. It is an incredibly long creature that can range from ten to twenty feet depending upon its age.

Danger

The Blighted Necators have taken to lying atop the ground where they are easily camouflaged by the ground and surrounding vegetation. They have been known to simply lie in wait, sensing an oncoming animal thorough the vibrations in the ground, when they either open their mouths to trip and consume their prey in what most would assume was a hole, or they wrap their bodies around the prey and attempt to kill as a snake would. Necators are blind and hunt by vibration. They can sense movement through the ground and displaced air. Necators also hear through their very sensitive skin, making them especially aware of other creatures if they are moving or making noise nearby.

Necators should never be cut in half since both halves will usually live on without the entirety of their body.

It is also said that the Blight has enabled Necators to move much more swiftly through the ground. If they were to escape the woodlands and go in search of prey, it would spell disaster for many around Ga'leah.

Weakness

A Necator can only be killed with fire. It can be burned, and it is possibly to cut the creature if the wound is cauterized afterwards. Because Necators are worms, they lack a brain and so trauma to the head will not stop one.

Petalura

Caption

Physical Description

Petalura are beautiful flower like creatures that grow and thrive in the most secluded parts of the Yarrow. They have wings that resemble flowers and move in a propeller-like motion to allow them to fly long distances and hover easily. These wings can appear any color of the rainbow. Their bodies are green and appear to be composed completely of vines and leaves though they are not. They are the size of a small child and can both take root in the ground for small periods of time by burying their tentacles in the ground, or fly to a new location in search of sustenance. Petalura typically feed off the nutrients in the soil left behind by the Necators.

Danger

ody that serve as protection from predators. They can shoot these thorns over long distances at predators. Blighted Petalura have taken to shooting them at prey. Blighted Petalura also use their tentacles to wrap around prey and sap all nourishment form their bodies, leaving behind a dehydrated husk.

Weakness

Like with Blighted creatures, they must be destroyed with fire or by causing harm to the head. They are also very fragile in body and can be cut or beaten.

Weevil

Physical Description: Weevils are beetle like insects that travel in swarms. They have a hive mindset which allows them to communicate with each other about danger and/or food. They have extremely hard exoskeletons and soft underbellies. They area always green in color with needle sharp claws on their front legs and horns atop their heads. They are roughly the size of a ladybug.

Attacks: Weevils typically feed only on vegetation. Once every year, they emerge from their hibernation to feed on the vegetation in an area before returning to hibernation before the cold weather sets in. However, Blighted Weevils have a hunger for human flesh. They are very small but deadly. LIke tiny, insectoid piranha, they fly in small swarms which can quickly overtake an individual and strip flesh from bone in a matter of minutes.

Weakness: Weevils can be repelled by immersing oneself in water. They can be burned, but they are most effectly killed by crushing them. Their soft underbelly does allow for the insects to be crushed under the right force. They can also be repelled by the smell of camphor.

Triffid

Caption

Physical Description

Triffids are 8 foot tall plants that can be found growing within the Yarrow. When they are stationary, they put down their roots to anchor them in the ground and extend their arms into the air like branches where they rest until the need to feed.

When a Triffid needs to feed, it can pull up its roots and walk on them for incredibly long distances. While moving, it emits a strong fragrance full of pheromones to attract prey. It's arms are tipped with sharp barbs and are hollow with a long, sticky tongue at its center. The middle of the flower is composed of hundreds of compound eyes like those of an insect which provide it with perfect vision of its surrounding area.

Danger

Triffids attract their prey by emitting a pheromone laced scent that will override much of its prey's thought processes and attract them to the plant. Some humans have even been witnessed hugging the trunk of a Triffid when attracted by the smell. As soon as the victim is within range, the Triffid stabs them with it's arms. They can use their tongues and their acid like saliva as well as their barb tipped arms to break off hunks of their prey and ingest it.

Weakness

Triffids are plants and feel no pain when attacked physically. They can be wounded, but they will not feel it or react until they are killed. Because Triffids are plants, they lack a brain and can only be killed by dismemberment and/or fire. It is possibly to chop off a Triffid's arms , unroot it, and chop apart the trunk thereby rendering it useless. They are also highly flammable.
