The Sea of Lyrielle is a relatively new structure in the landscape of Ga'leah. It did not exist until the Maritanis were attacked, and fell to the, the Blight. Now, it is a safe haven to the only creatures of the sea that could be saved from the Ocean Blight. Although an underwater channel was uncovered that provides easy access to the Maritanis, many of the Merkind have remained in the Sea of Lyrielle even after the Blight was defeated.

The Sea of Lyrielle is found just north of Castle Caerleon and is connected to Caerleon by the Zaffre River and to the sea by the creeks and ponds which have magically remained freshwater even in the presence of the saltwater sea. It is also within easy traveling distance to the Five Corners, Deepwood, and the villages of Easthaven and Westhaven.

The Sea was created on the outskirts of Caerleon due to the deal struck by the High Queen, Gwenhwyfar Pendragon, and King Triton of the Merkind. Both rulers formed a groundbreaking truce to help each other in the midst of the catastrophe that was the Blight. Lyrielle hoped that the Pendragons would honor this agreement even after the Maritanis was lost and help the Merkind to fight to save whatever they had left.

This saltwater structure was large enough to contain the entirety of the Merkind capital, Mahrielle, with plenty of room to spare. It is also heated by thermal vents and lit by luminescent organisms much as the original location of the city. The city rests upon a rocky underwater outcropping in the exact center of the sea. At the border of the city, the outcropping drops severely. The true depth of the the rest of the sea is unknown, but besides short but shallow beaches on the shores of the Sea, the structure itself appears to be impossibly deep with a complicated structure of sea caves extending beneath the surface of Ga'leah but not joining with the Blighted Maritanis until the clay seals that closed them off were removed by the Merkind. Besides housing the Merkind capital, the Sea is home to all of the aquatic life that Lyrielle could salvage in hopes that the Merkind and the creatures of the sea would one day be able to return to the Maritanis.

As the realization that defeat was imminent finally settled upon Lyrielle the Coming Tide, she became determined to do what she could to save the seas from complete annihilation. After seeing to it that Treasure Island would remain safe for the Pirate Kingdom, Lyrielle transformed her body into the Sea of Lyrielle.

The Merkind capital of Mahrielle was also magically relocated to the sea in enough time to save many of the Merkind and other sea creatures as well. In honor of the deal made with the High Queen before Triton's death, the Merkind spent much of the remainder of the Blight assisting the High Court in combating the dangers. They provided what food they could to the refugees by growing and harvesting kelp and seaweed and other oceanic delicacies. They also sent their warrior women to fight alongside the High Court in many of the battles that followed the fall of the Maritanis.

Now that the Maritanis has been freed from the Blight, the patriarchy wishes to return to the oceans but many are also content to remain where they are.
