If you find empty pages, we are working on filling them post haste. If you find conflicting information, we are working on making our facts align across pages and we would be happy to tell you which piece of conflicting information is correct. We apologize for any confusion, with luck Beta Testing will be over the and the Wiki will be 100% done shortly.

Although best known for it's Grimm Brothers' adaption, Sleeping Beauty was originally a literary tale published by Charles Perrault in Histoires ou contes du temps passé in 1697. It has since been adapted into various retellings of the original tale as well as a ballet, animated features, motion pictures, and television programs.

Once Upon a Nightmare sought to capitalize on the evil of the nature of the dark faery who first curses Aurora, creating a more elaborate back story for her. In addition, it was determined that Aurora would have been under her curse for a century according to current game time so that her rescue could be close at hand. To allow Aurora's player to have interaction with others, she was given special abilities by her player to allow her to communicate and interact with other characters even while under her curse. Later, it was decided that Flora, Fauna, and Merriweather could be easily worked into the mythology surrounding the Fae of Spring, allowing for more interaction and intricacies.

Canon Tale

The Vauclains had ruled the kingdom of Dokrayth for generations until King Stefan and Queen Leah were unable to produce an heir. Their desire for a child was well known throughout the land of Ga'leah and beyond. Though the gods did not see fit to answer their prayers, many Fae and healers tried to help them conceive but to no avail. Finally, Maleficent visited the King and Queen with a beautiful baby in her arms, a Demigod baby she had stolen from the moon goddess Selene to give to the royal family. They did not ask where the babe came from. They did not want to know. Selene tried everything she could to bring her daughter home, but could not, for the Pantheon hunted and killed the Demigod children of the gods and stealing Aurora back would only reveal her to those who would kill her without mercy. Instead, she entreated those gods she trusted to help her protect the child from harm, a promise they made without hesitation.

But, Maleficent was not granted the gratitude she expected for her gift to the King and Queen. She had been promised the babe's power which she intended to use to amplify her own. Instead, the King and Queen desired to keep the babe's demigodhood and so on the celebration of Aurora's first birthday, she arrived to level a terrible curse upon the princess. The princess would prick her finger on a spinning wheel and sleep for a hundred years. Though the King and Queen tried to circumvent the curse by sending Aurora to grow up with three priestesses in the Yarrow, their efforts proved fruitless and the princess fell to a curse that was a personal affront to her own mother who could not save her without revealing her to the Pantheon.

Though the Vauclains tried to protect her and many tried to wake her, none proved worthy and in time the tale of the Sleeping Beauty in Briar Keep became little more than a bedtime story... If only they had known that there was more to Aurora's curse, however, than an insulted sorceress. Aurora was a demigod and even under a sleeping curse, she was far from as helpess and 'trapped' as they thought she was, for the kingdom of dreams was her to explore and manipulate and her soul was not bound to her body...

Gawain was not a prince, but he was the great-grandson of the Sun God himself. Not quite a demigod, his ties to the sun were still present. The higher the sun was in the sky, the strong and more resilient he was. He was more than a normal man and rose to the ranks of the greatest knights in the land as a Knight of the Round Table, but Gawain was haunted by tales of the sleeping princess in Dokrayth, a quest that had yet to find a champion because of the superstitions that surround Briar Keep. Now, those superstitions are more than just stories and it seems no one will ever succeed in waking her. Since Maleficent's death, the castle has become the home of one of her dragons, a creature determined to use the sleeping princess to its own ends and prevent anyone from saving her...

Maleficent was killed by the High King when the Blight was defeated, but this was not the end of Aurora's troubles, for Maleficent had a daughter who inherited much of her darkness.
